K.H.Baloch's Encyclopaedia of Pakistan Cricket (1947-48 to 2004)
Dr. Khadim Hussain Baloch and Mohammed Salim Parvez
Christopher Saunders, Orchard Books, Kingston House, High Street, Newnham-on-Severn, Gloucestershire, GL14 1BB) £40, plus £6 postage
This is the second volume by Dr. Baloch on the history of Pakistan cricket, and is the culmination of a lifetime of research. The main body of the encyclopaedia are short biographies of all of Pakistan's Test and One Day International players, plus 280 other players and personalities in Pakistani cricket. Most of the entries are supported by a photographic portrait - some of which have never been published before - and for the majority of retired players, there is invaluable information about their life after their playing days were over.

For the statisticians, there are full records of every international match played until 2004, plus records of domestic matches – both first-class and limited overs – whilst the statistical section includes a full list of Pakistan players in county cricket in England, as well as domestic cricket in Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. There is also a listing of Pakistani professionals in the Lancashire League, whilst towards the end is a short photographic section, showing various touring parties and other groups.

In short, this magnificent book contains the answer to practically any question one could think of about Pakistani cricket and its players. The book has been issued in a limited edition of 450 unnumbered copies, of which 400 are for sale, and it is to be hoped that the authors will bring out future updates.
