If you start out in life as a sword wielding nutter Can it ever be a good thing? Guy's parents were constantly retrieving weapons from the hands of their small son whilst he defended himself against an older brother. His grandfather gave him some early fencing lessons, and he later trained in various martial arts and fencing.
Off he went to university and surprisingly managed to find a friend who was also interested in sword fighting. When their living room got too small for fighting in, they clashed swords after dark in the alleyways, parks and courtyards of Edinburgh, and narrowly avoided arrest. Other people started to notice and some wanted to join in.
Bored with Scotland, Guy went on an exchange to Helsinki. After much angst, too-ing and fro-ing he changed career from 5 years of antiques restoration and cabinet making, to doing what he loves most - sword fighting. Guy set up one of the first schools of historical swordsmanship in Europe and lives with his wife and family in Helsinki. The school keeps growing, and has expanded across Finland, to Sweden and Singapore. For more information go to www.swordschool.com. |
