Term Time Courses

We run a series of courses depending on demand and space within the timetable.

Creative Writing for Boys - A one term course designed to inspire and develop creative writing. The lessons use a mixture of techniques including drama to develop their confidence in writing with topics specifically of interest to boys.

Times Tables Club - This offers specific help in overcoming this all important area. With priority given to children in years 3 and 4, the course aims at radically improving their knowledge, understanding and confidence of their times tables.

Problem Solving - Ideal for KS2 children who find it difficult to apply their maths knowledge to problems. A specialist maths teacher will give them the techniques and confidence to develop their skills.

Study Skills – a short half term course to equip Year 6 children with the new demands of Senior School. In particular the lessons will cover:

• Self organisation - We have found, in previous years that children from state Schools, in particular, have not had experience of a more structured timetable with individual subject areas and the need to be in the right place at the right time with the right kit!
• Revision techniques  - We find that children benefit enormously from some early tips on how to revise (using fun activities and techniques on memory strategies.)
• How we learn – an introduction to recognizing different learning styles and what suits you eg visual, auditory or kinaesthetic learners
• Memory strategies
• Mind Mapping

This is a busy and exciting time for Year 6 children so there is no homework and the sessions are light and fun in tone.
